Romantic fatalism on Spurs and the near miss that never ends
Supporting Spurs means imagining the club’s worst fate and knowing it will arrive.
Earlier this month my Spurs chat debated one signing.
Would you take Eze or Savinho if you could choose?
I confessed my gut feeling we would not get either.
A few days later I doubled down.
Reports claimed Eze was near moving to N17.
Yet I sensed Arsenal would gazump us at the last moment.
I have seen this grim film before.
Spurs have nearly signed players from Papin to Hazard to Rivaldo.
Rivaldo supposedly wrote to Hoddle choosing San Siro over White Hart Lane.

We worship controlled chaos, pressing structures, and wide angled runs.
I describe patterns of play as if solving a poem.
Rivals complicate the mood; Chelsea enters the frame.
Arsenal stays forever in the horizon, permanently.
But mostly I feel despair, better on paper again.
There will always be a jab, a bitter sting.
