Leeds and Premier League Chaos: Pre-Season Travels in Turmoil

Leeds United and the Whims of Pre-Season Travels

It seems that all twenty teams in the Premier League are busy jumping between seasons. Friendlies, training camps, and even the Club World Cup fill up their schedules. I can only watch from a distance, trying to understand the purpose behind such chaos. The flights, the warm-up matches in distant cities, the scramble for fitness and rhythm. It feels like the very rhythm of football is being scrambled, unpredictably shifting from one time zone to another.

Take Arsenal, for example. After their warm weather training in Spain, they are heading to Asia. Their journey begins in Singapore with a friendly against Milan. Then, just four days later, they face Newcastle at the National Stadium. Following that, they travel to Hong Kong for the Spurs match. There are more friendlies at the Emirates, against Villarreal and Athletic Club, which feel more like obligations than matches. It’s a spectacle, really, but one I sometimes wonder if it misses the emotional core of the game.

As Bielsa once said, “The moment when the team is at its best is when it breathes with the people.” And I sometimes wonder if all this flying is about chasing that harmony or if it is just chaos disguised as preparation. Leeds United knows a thing or two about chaos, after all. But amid the turbulence, the heartbeat of Elland Road remains steady—breathing, pulsating, unpredictable.

Football in this season feels like a storm gathering pace, with each team caught in its own turbulence. Manchester United, with all their fire, seem to burn brighter each day. Sheffield Wednesday fans, nervously watching, hang on every twist. And Leeds, well, we just breathe through it all, knowing that the storm is our natural rhythm, our turbulent dance.
