Liverpool lodge PGMO complaint after van Dijk disallowed header against City
Liverpool have filed a formal complaint with the Professional Game Match Officials board over the disallowed Virgil van Dijk header against Manchester City.
The incident occurred in the 38th minute as City led 1-0.
Referee Chris Kavanagh signalled for the goal to be ruled out after a check by VAR Michael Oliver.
The VAR concluded that Andy Robertson was in an offside position and made an obvious action directly in front of the goalkeeper as he ducked away from van Dijk’s header.
Liverpool contend the criteria for disallowing the goal were not met.
The ball beat Gianluigi Donnarumma as it sailed into the net.
TLDR
- Liverpool have formally complained to PGMO over the disallowed van Dijk goal against Manchester City.
- The decision rested on Robertson being offside and interfering, according to VAR Michael Oliver.
- The club questions whether the disallowance criteria were properly applied in that moment.
